If Globalinternet.co.uk is free, why am I paying for my internet services?

  1) Telephone Numbers & DNS Servers
ISDN modem number = 0845 669 3472, (64k & 128k)
all other modems=
0845 669 3471
(you can use any username & password you want with these numbers)

You should not need to know the DNS servers as they are automatically assigned, but if your software requires them they are as follows:
Our Primary DNS Server = 212.1.128.40
Our Secondary DNS Server = 212.1.128.42

  2) Trouble shooting
If you are failing to connect for some reason please check that the modem is plugged in and that all leads are secure.  If you are timing out at the 'hand shake' then allow at least 1 minute before time out in the modem section of control panel.

Setting up a dialup account in windows

To set up a network connection by using Dial-Up Networking Double-click My Computer, and then double-click Dial-Up Networking.  Follow the instructions on the screen.

Notes:
To dial a connection that you have already set up, click its icon in the Dial-Up Networking window.

If you do not see a Dial-Up Networking folder in My Computer, then the component is not installed. You must install it using the Windows disk.

Please remember that all Login names start with GLI (in capitals) not GL1.

The two most common problems people have when trying to connect to their email accounts are the following

1)  Wrong dialup account
Although you might be able to receive your mail while using another ISP's internet connection, you will not be able to send mail.  Within Outlook Express you can assign a specific dialup account to a specific email account (Tools, accounts, properties, connection)

2)  Wrong Login & Password
Both the Login name & Password are case sensitive.  If your password is a name and you entered it with a capital letter at the beginning, you must make sure that you always enter it with a capital letter.

Please remember that all Login names start with GLI (in capitals) not GL1.

Free 20 megs of  basic web space (no support for ASP, Cold Fusion or PHP)
URL in the form of
www.your_name.globalinternet.co.uk unless you have your own domain.

Your web directory will also include a log file sub directory where your daily hit stats will be stored.  You will need Web Trends or a similar package to process them.

We recommend that you use a package such as WS_FTP to access your web space, remembering to connect using one of our dialup accounts, and making sure that your Login & Password are both the correct case.
Your "Host Name / Address" will be
"www.
your_name.globalinternet.co.uk"

Please remember that all Login names start with GLI (in capitals) not GL1.

Our web space does support Frontpage Extensions but you must request that they are activated in your account by entering your URL below.

Please allow the following URL to use Frontpage Extensions

(ie. www.your_host_name.globalinternet.co.uk)

1) FEEDBACK PAGE CGI
To use the feedback script you must include the following text in your HTML Document...

**************************************************
<form method="post" action="
http://www.cgi-box.net/cgi-bin/FormMail.cgi">
<input type=hidden name="redirect" value="
http://www.Your_Host_Name.GLOBALINTERNET.CO.UK/thank-you.htm">
<input type=hidden name="recipient" value="
Your_Name@Your_Email_Address.com">
<input type=hidden name="subject" value="
Results of feedback form">

Please allow the following URL to use the feedback CGI Script <br>
 <input type="text" name="
feedback_URL_Request" size="20"><br>
(ie. www.your_host_name.globalinternet.co.uk)

I would like the script to send the feedback page contents to this Email address<br>
<input type=
"text" name="feedback_CGI_email_address_Request" size="20"><br>
(This can be any email address
you want)
</b></font><br>

<input type="submit" value="Submit" name="submit">&nbsp;
<input type="reset" value="Reset" name="reset">

</form>
**************************************************

What the fields mean...

  1. http://www.cgi-box.net/cgi-bin/FormMail.cgi  This is the location of our CGI Script and must not be changed
  2. http://www.Your_Host_Name.GLOBALINTERNET.CO.UK/thank-you.htm This is the location of your thank you page (you must create it yourself and upload it to your web space).  After the user has clicked submit, this is the page that will be displayed.
  3. Your_Name@Your_Email_Address.com This is the E-Mail address that  the contents of the feedback form will be sent to. You can use any address you want Note: You must let us know your destination email address in the form below
  4. Results of feedback form This will set the subject field for the emails you receive from the feedback form
  5. ~=YOUR INPUT FIELDS=~ This is the location of your input fields such as name or address.

When the example shown above is inserted into a web page it looks something like this...

Please allow the following URL to use the feedback CGI Script

(ie. www.your_host_name.globalinternet.co.uk)

I would like the script to send the feedback page contents to this Email address

(This can be any email address you want)

When you create web space and want to use our feedback CGI you must actually send us your intended URL using this form.  When we receive your request we will enable your URL to use the script.

2) Hit Stats CGI
Although our web accounts provide you with a directory containing detailed log files, you still need to use additional software to make sense of them, something like Web Trends for example.

If you don't have access to this type of software we have a web based alternative for you.

1) Copy and paste the following script into the HTML of the page you want hit- stats for.

2) Where ever on the page you pasted the script, when viewed in a browser, all that will be visible will be the tiny hit-stats button (   Hit Stats Button    ).

3) When you visit the page after that and click the tiny hit-stats button you will see your hit stats, browser types, screen sizes, domains and lots of other info.

If you would like to suggest another type of script to add to the customer CGI list please let us know via our feedback form.

If you have ever used Hotmail or anything similar then you will have no problems navigating your way around our web based email platform.

The system uses all of the normal commands such as read, reply, reply all, forward, delete and compose.

Three points to bear in mind are...

1) The login name & password you use are your POP3 login & password, not account admin.  If you have more that one email account you must enter the different Login & passwords individually and view each mailbox one at a time.

2) Every time you send an email using the web based email platform, your outgoing message has our URL added to the bottom of the page.

3) The web based email relies heavily on frames and needs a browser that can support them.  Although 99% of browsers in the world do support frames there are still some that struggle.  The simple way to tell is if you can see this page then you can use the email pages.

Please remember that all Login names start with GLI (in capitals) not GL1.

In order for us to host your existing domain you must first setup a normal account with us and then request your current ISP to release your domain onto our network. To do that your current ISP will need the following details about us...

1) For .CO.UK domains
the only information they need is our IPS Tag Which is "NWNET" and they normally take about 2 days to complete.

2) For .COM, .NET and .ORG domains
your current ISP will need the following information...

Our Primary DNS Server = 212.1.128.40
Our Secondary DNS Server = 212.1.128.42
Our NIC Handle = TE360-ORG
...and they normally take about 5 working days to complete.

If you have a web site up at the moment on this domain you must make a copy of it, when the domain gets transferred your site doesn't get transferred with it.

Please CC a copy of your domain transfer request, along with the details of your new Globalinternet.co.uk account to
domains@globalinternet.co.uk .

When the transfer is complete we will assign your domain to your account and you will have access to it via the members area

Why am I paying for my Account?

We are, and always have been, a FREE ISP.  If you are currently paying for your internet services then you are not one of our customers (...yet).  There are several ISP's that have the words 'GLOBAL' & 'INTERNET' in either their name or their web address.  To help prevent any confusion between GLOBALINTERNET.CO.UK and any of these companies we have compiled a list of links.

The following companies are ISP's that charge for their services...

1) www.globalinternet.com Owned by Twelve Net.

2) www.globalinternet.net Owned by Global Internet Services.

3) www.globalnet.co.uk Owned by Global Internet, an XO Company.
